چکیده

purpose: to study recordings of oscillatory potentials (ops) of the electroretinogram (erg) in diabetic eyes that have no visible fundus alterations, to ascertain whether changes in sensitivity are evident when compared with recordings from age-matched controls. methods: ops of the erg were measured from 68 eyes of 34 patients with diabetes without retinopathy and from 30 eyes of 15 normal subjects. results: a reduction in the amplitude of each oscillatory potential, as well as delayed implicit time of each oscillatory potential peak could be found in diabetic patients without retinopathy although not all significant. decrease in the amplitude of op1 and summed op (op-sum) and also delayed the implicit time of op1 were seen between diabetic patients with no observable diabetic retinopathy. conclusion: patients with diabetes without retinopathy show prolonged latencies in ops recordings and decreased in amplitudes of op-1 and op-sum. this indicates an alteration in inner retinal sensitivity or ischemic change of overall retinal layer that can be explained by an impaired rod-cone interaction.   iranian journal of ophthalmology 200820(1):20-24

Posterior Segment Retina Vitrectomy in Diabetic Retinopathy

Pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) is integral to the management of late complications in diabetic retinopathy. As a greater understanding of the pathophysiology of diabetic eye disease has developed, so the role of PPV has evolved. This article reviews the current indications for PPV in diabetes (vitreous haemorrhage, tractional retinal detachment and combined rhegmatogenous and tractional retinal de...

In vivo characterization of ischemic retina in diabetic retinopathy

OBJECTIVE The aim of this article is to characterize pathomorphologic changes within particular layers of fluorescein angiographically 'ischemic' compared to 'nonischemic' retina in patients with diabetic retinopathy. METHODS Cross-sectional images of ischemic retinal areas were obtained using Heidelberg Spectralis optical coherence tomography (OCT). Presumed retinal ischemia was defined as f...

Retinal changes in diabetic patients without diabetic retinopathy

Purpose The purpose of this study was to measure retinal vessel caliber and to examine early changes in macular thickness using optical coherence tomography (OCT). We evaluated to what extend vascular caliber and macular thickness differed between patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus without diabetic retinopathy compared with healthy individuals. Methods 26 diabetic patients without diabeti...

Characteristics of diabetic nephropathy patients without diabetic retinopathy

The purpose of the current study was to investigate the characteristics of patients with diabetic nephropathy (DN) without diabetic retinopathy (DR).One hundred four patients with biopsy-proven DN, and 52 patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) without DR who were diagnosed as membranous nephropathy by renal biopsy were retrospectively included. We compared the clinical and laboratory parameters o...
